Meet The Team

Tom Jefferies

Founder and KS3 to A-Level Maths Tutor

I started Pioneering in 2010, and have attended 3 Pioneer Schools, 1 Elders School, 2 KMS, as well as graduating from SKE in 2019. I serve as an Elder, and work on LDC projects as often as my schedule allows (I'm also a Branch Certified Skilled Electrician).

I went to college after school and qualified as an Electrician, but I started Tutoring in 2017, and have since worked in Secondary Schools as a specialist Maths Cover Supervisor. I have Diplomas in Higher Mathematics, PreCalculus and Micro-Economics, and I have done courses in Advanced Probability and Statistics, and Physics. Both of my parents are also teachers (Dad is a Maths Teacher in a Private School in Kent, Mum was a Primary School Teacher but now works as a First Aid Trainer).

Nat and I founded Pioneer Tutoring in November 2020 as a way to help out a friend during the Pandemic, we didn't know how long it would last but it kept growing and at one point we had over 20 students across 3 levels.

I can often be found with my nose in a book - printed or electronic, I'm not fussy! - and I have a passion for learning languages and general knowledge trivia.

Natalie Jefferies

Co-Founder and Administrator

I started Pioneering in 2010 as well, I've also done 3 Pioneer Schools and I graduated SKE with Tom in August 2019. I was born and raised in Kent, but our SKE assignment took us to County Donegal in Ireland, and we now serve in the Spalding, Lincolnshire Congregation.

I am a qualified Bookkeeper, Hairdresser and Nail Technician, and have experience doing Data Entry for a Doctor's Surgery. I have also done courses to understand Autism and how to help those with ASD.

I deal with all the Administration for Pioneer Tutoring - handling enquiries, arranging payments etc, so chances are if you contact us you'll be talking to me.

I love drinking coffee, collecting orchids, and snuggling on the sofa with our cat Popeye!

Popeye (AKA Professor Popeye)

Pioneer Tutoring Mascot and Honorary Tutor

I was rescued in October 2022 after spending the Pandemic roaming outside. I very quickly made myself at home, and made sure to let everyone know I am the boss.

I love being around people and sleeping, preferably on a lap if I can, but anywhere will do. If you forget to feed me or feed me late, or if you don't give me your undivided attention I will make sure to remind you I'm here.

I have been known to curl up on Tom's lap whilst he's teaching and make sure he's doing a good job.

English Lessons

Due to a change in circumstances we no longer offer English Group Classes, however we still work closely with Kat to help you with this subject.

Kat Saywell

KS2 to KS4 English Tutor

I’m from a family of pioneers in Bolsover Derbyshire. I started Pioneering in September 2008. Since then I have attended 1 language class, 3 Pioneer Schools and I graduated from SKE in September 2019. I was assigned to a Russian group in Norfolk and recently moved back to Derbyshire. I’ve been part of Metropolitan Witnessing in 2 cities and part of 2 language groups; Russian and Chinese. I’ve been on several LDC projects and helped with catering for schools like Single Brothers School, Pioneer Schools and Elders Schools.

I started my online teaching journey in 2018 for a Chinese Language School teaching both children and adults. Then in 2021, I started to Tutor for KS2-KS4 levels. This has included helping students with Dyslexia, Autism and other learning challenges improve and cope better in school and at home. I have also prepared students for exams like ILETS, CAT4, 11+, GCSE English for AQA, iGCSE English and Functional Skills tests. I worked with Pioneer Tutoring from July 2021 to July 2024. One of the things I love is seeing the confidence grow in both class and communication with other teens in the classes. It’s such a friendly atmosphere.

Being in nature is my happy place, so going for walks in the Peak District or on Norfolk beaches are just wonderful. I love to travel and been to several continents including Asia, America and Europe. If you have any recommendations please share and I’ll add it to my list. My COVID hobby was cartoon drawing which I have been able to continue. I also love coffee and may have a coffee machine in the office.
